Newcastle Eye Hospital Foundation was founded in 2011 to raise necessary funds to provide eye surgery for those who need it most.  Our mission is to improve eye sight for our community, both locally and abroad.  Our second mission is to research.  Our third mission is to educate and provide for junior doctors and staff as needed.  

In Jos, Nigeria we have proudly help fund a hospital, and in 2025 participated in the first "eye camp" there.  We enjoy a relationship with the eye department at Jos University Teaching Hospital (JUTH).  We have helped fund two schools for disadvantaged children.

Dr Peter and Hillary Davies have recently visited overseas sites in Tarawa Kiribati, Mindoro Phillipines, Abuja and Jos, Nigeria, and are supervising the expansion of the school in Abuja Nigeria.  When the Ebola crisis settles, we hope to visit our project in Bunia, Democratic Republic of Congo, run by HCLS.

We have had a relationship for many years with Eye Openers India, and Liberty people who work in many nations around the world.

Why is our foundation different?  Because all the costs of running the foundation are covered by Dr Peter Davies.  This means every cent donated by others is 100% spent on the nominated project.  

If you wish to give to our foundation, all donations are tax deductible for Australian residents and will be used for the projects you nominate, or allocated by us to the areas of need.  

Dr Peter Davies was pleased to receive from the Newcastle Lord Mayor the Keys to the City of Newcastle in 2017 for our charity work.   You can read about this here.

The majority of vision loss is preventable and through our partnerships we work to eliminate avoidable blindness for those who would not readily have access to quality eye care. 

Through our Golden ticket program here in Australia, we have also provided many cataract surgeries funded by the foundation to those who need it most.
